London charity for older LGBT people seeks volunteers

Opening Doors London, the charity for older LGBT people, is seeking donations and volunteers.
The service, run by Age UK, offers information, help, ‘befrienders’ and social activities for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people over the age of 50.
It is estimated that there are 100,000 older LGBT people in the capital and Opening Doors London says many are isolated from family and friends.

Comment: Peter Tatchell on Saturday’s anti-English Defence League protest

Like many other people, I went to last Saturday’s protest in East London first and foremost to oppose the far right English Defence League and to defend the Muslim community against EDL thuggery.
But I also wanted to stand in solidarity with Muslims who oppose far right Islamists. These fundamentalists threaten and intimidate the Muslim community; especially fellow Muslims who don’t conform to their harsh, intolerant interpretation of Islam. To varying degrees, both the Islamists and the EDL menace Muslim people.

Rickshaw driver not guilty of raping lesbian

A London rickshaw driver has been cleared of raping a lesbian doctor.
Murat Durmus, 23, of Walthamstow, said the pair had consensual sex after he drove her home from a night out on February 5th.
Jurors at the Old Bailey unanimously found him not guilty, Press Association reports.
The court was told that he had picked the woman and a male friend up after they had been drinking in bars in Soho following a late shift at work.
The woman, in her twenties, claimed that Mr Durmus attacked her after dropping her friend off.
